Why does my friend act like her marriage is perfect?
My friend has a terrible husband. He beats her, rapes her, belittles her, doesn’t give her money, degrades her … he broke her arm once … another time, she tried to call the police during an attack. He tore off her clothes and then slammed the phone into her face until the cops arrived. He likes her to strip for — and then have sex with — his friends. He beats her on a regular basis (usually he hits her in the head or torso, she tells me, so people can’t see — and then demands sex).
I have tried to help her, given her hotline numbers, etc, but she does not want to leave him (or is too scared to).
But she has it in her head she has a great marriage. She says, “A few bad times doesn’t erase all the wonderful parts of our marriage.” She bought a book with me called “Married For Life”. Her Facebook status says things like, “I have the best husband” and “I won the love lottery”.
Does she not see how f-ed up her marriage really is???
She might believe that it is her fault and she provokes him so, in her mind she deserves it.
My aunt is going to the same thing she has been married for 13 years and her husband has gone to jail three times on assault charges but she still stays with him and when we talk to her about it she just says that she understands that it is her fault so she has to change.
